Student Spotlight
Introduction
|
My name is Veronica Rebeca Alamilla, I am originally from Mexico. I am currently a sophomore-junior Pre-Med student. I am also doing a minor in Neuroscience and French.
Why did you choose NKU?
First, I chose NKU because it has a great Pre-Med program, which fits my interests and my goals. Then I found out about all the other things that NKU offers to the students in order to help them have a great education and to make them get the most out of the college experience, for example, most of the class sizes are small that way you have more interaction with your professors. There is a writing center, math center and tutoring that is available to the students for free, if you are having trouble with a class you can go there and they will help you with that class. Also there are many clubs, organizations, sororities, etc. to join that are according to your interests and to have fun.
For all of the reasons that I mentioned I knew NKU was perfect for me.
What are your future goals?
My immediate future goal is to finish my bachelor's degree with a good GPA. After that my main goal is to be accepted in Medical School and then become a surgeon. It is too early to say what type of surgeon but I want to become one that pertains to my main interests; cardiology, neurology or plastic surgery. One day I want to be able to help our community and I think that by pursuing a medical career I will be able to help more people.
How has Latino Student Affairs affected you?
The Office of Latino Student Affairs has been helping me since the first day I walked through their door. The staff and faculty from this office have become like my second family, they have made me feel that NKU is like my second home. Thanks to them I have met great people that I now can call friends; I have also met important people that are part of our history like Dolores Huerta and Sylvia Mendez.
The Office of Latino Student Affairs has encouraged me to become a better Latina, to get involved in the activities, to help our community, and to be aware of the needs that the Latino community has in the United States and do something about it. They are always having events and volunteer activities that not only make you give back to our community but also where you can network and learn new skills that will help you later on in life.
What are your major accomplishments?
My major accomplishments are:
-
Placing third in the Hidalgo's State Mathematics annual contest while I was in high school. Hundreds of high school students took part in that contest.

Anything else that you would like to share?
I think NKU is a great university. NKU has offered me the tools and opportunities to enjoy the college experience. Through NKU and LSA I have met incredible people but most importantly, friends. I have participated in lots of activities and events. I have learned to try to be the best Latino I can be everyday. Thanks to NKU and LSA, I know I can pursue my dreams and goals with the right tools!
